How do you know the waters around you?

Shorelines are often understood as static, mappable boundaries between water and land, yet extreme weather events experienced across Canada and around the world reveal these liminal spaces as much more fluid. By investing shorelines through sound, this project challenges what humans might expect from these spaces: pristine nature, human infrastructure, or something in between.

These recordings were all done by R. Christopher Rogers and presented as part of the (Un)sustainable Sounds panel and workshop during the 2024 R-CADE Symposium on sustainability at Rutgers Camden.
